Dear Brian.

From David

As you know so much about a piece like this can lead to incredible
frustration...first I would consult the Cambridge Companion to the
Clarinet...there is a fine section on multiphonics for clarinet. All of the
standard multiphonics are in there...alas I don't have a copy of the book
but it is readily available. You should be able to order it pretty fast.
One of my former students never gave me back my copy....

As to most multiphonics and their " nature"..... one frustation which I
personally have found is the ideal reed for some multiphonics is lighter
while for others are with harder set ups...Gra is quite a challenge in that
there is a good deal of upper register material that requires a fairly stiff
reed...so you experience some reeds which will get the standard fingerings
which with Mr. Carter gives...and other reeds that bark like a banshee from
hell.

Gra is pretty nice..

Best of luck
David Dow
