Subj: [kl] 1193 Bass from Muncy Winds
Date: Mon, 14 Jun 2004 07:38:18 -0400

I am receipt of two Buffet 1193 bass clarinets from Muncy Winds. One arrived
with some slightly bent keywork in the left-hand pinky keys. I'll be keeping
the other, it plays beautifully.

Some questions for the list and Francois Kloc:

When I bought my latest R-13 Bb about 18 months ago it came with a slip of
paper describing a 5 year no-crack warranty. This bass has no such paper.
Does anyone know what the warranty is?

The 1193 is the low C bass. The hole on the bell below the low C key is a
speaker hole? Or is it used to adjust low not pitch, with a little foot
action?

My newish R-13 also came with a piece of paper warning against ever oiling
the bore. I imagined that was because Buffet is treating the bore on R-13s
in some way. What is the recommendation for oiling on the 1193 Prestige
bass?

Amusingly, Muncy Winds includes a paper describing theire preferred break-in
routine. The last line of the routins says that you should not play a
concert or gig until you have run the break-in protocol for a year! Somehow,
I don't think this one will last that long before I take it on stage
somewhere.

I also ordered a Clark Fobes bass mouthpiece. Wow! Clarion delight!

Can someone please point me to a good bass clarinet altissimo fingering
chart?

By the way, the people at Muncy Winds have been wonderful through the ordeal
of trying to get that much money past my bank, and have been very helpful
otherwise.
