Subj: [kl] Clarinet issues - A or Bb??
Date: Sun, 13 Jun 2004 03:16:17 -0400

Greetings all,

Although I have been lurking for a short while, this is my first post to
this list.. greetings from Japan! ;)

Firstly, let me begin by saying that I am an absolute beginner - so if
there is something I've missed - I apologize - I have "googled" for an
answer - to no avail.

I have just recently bought a brand new Selmer Recital B1510-R Bb Clarinet
from an online store called music123.com .. all was well and I was quite
happy until I decided to play a really basic duo with a piano (recently
tuned)..

The short of the story is that the clarinet's C tunes to the piano's A
perfectly and not Bb.. which leads me to believe that this is in fact an A
clarinet.. as opposed to the Bb that I ordered.

Is there any way to tell what this clarinet is from the serial number for
a positive identification? I have looked all over the clarinet for other
markings, but cannot find any other markings..

Also if there are any Selmer people on this list with access to such a
database - the serial is N06160 and barrel shipped with the clarinet was
marked with 625 and mouthpiece "C85, 120".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and best regards..

//umar.
