The Music Academy of the West, where I have played on several
occasions, is not in session in late September/early October. It
really has to be UCSB or not at all.

My original suggestions were bookstores, but I noticed that you
emphasized university audiences in a recent post. Thus I'll
check
around at UCSB before I answer. Perhaps combine the two
audiences into
a single event... book store + UCSB music dept?

The Music Academy often programs presentations by their graduates
during
their summer session. I presume they would be interested in a
knowledgeable lecture (since you're not in performance mode this
trip).
The last time that I had any reason to correspond with Fred
Ormand, who
still teaches there each summer (it's unlikely that he remembers
me),
his email address was formand@-----.edu ; but probably you have
closer
contacts there than I do.
