There is a rather interesting piece by Giacinto Scelsi which is a piece for solo clarinet and chamber orchestra called Kya. I was unfamiliar with Scelsi until I went to a concert consisting of just his music at Columbia University. This piece in particular uses a lot of Eastern techniques as well as a somewhat canter-esque solo style for the clarinet.
