----- Although he never visited the far east Rimsky Korsakov seems to be
steeped in the modality of the east. The Scheherazade is a very long
example of his eastern flavour as well as the other tone poems. He seems to
relish the major minor scheme within a movement a great deal..almost to a
point of annoyance. As to this exotic quality in music there is no end..in
fact there is in Tchaikovsky with the Nutcracker the Arabian Dance and Danse
Chinois...we also have the same types of elements in Ballet Egytian a lesser
know work.

Sadly we are still a very ethnic centric world.
