Subj: [kl] Plugs for two composers

The California State University Bakersfield Community Band (consisting of
students and community members) had their last concert of the season last night.
Directed by Doug Davis, we played "Jovian Moons" by Ralph R. Hayes and
"Synergistic Parable" by David Sartor. Dr. Davis has invited six different
composers to have their band works featured in concerts this year. Last night I
enjoyed talking to both of these two guest composers about the trials and
tribulations of composing music, and I said I'd put their names out there in the world
where I might. Thus this note. It must be wierdly frustrating to put your
heart into a composition and then, perhaps, never hear it performed. It was a
joy to see both of these men react to our performance.

For my part, this is the best band I've ever played in, and it has been a
pleasure to be part of this 'Composers Series' of concerts. These two pieces of
music were great!
