Hello David

Of course I am not a professional clarinettist, thus maybe my judgement is
of little value to you. But I think I have reached a good level of playing,
and I always try to play whatever I play as musically as possible.

And that sometimes induces me to think a composer does not always write down
exactly his intentions. Schumann did -- probably. We do make a crescendo od
diminuendo sometimes, where it has not ben written, however slight it be,
but it was not in the score we play from, don't we? The same I think from
tempi. When playing or conducting I am not always consistent: sometimes a
make an acc where the week before I made a rit, or reverse, sometimes I
indicate a cresc where a week before I gave a dim, and so on. It just
depends on my mood. But the one thing I always do, is to play as musically
and as close to what I consider the composer's intention to be, as possible.

But maybe if I had learned the flite, and played music by, say the French
court composers my opnion would be quite different.
