My only question is whether or not the muriatic acid will remove enough
rubber from either the rails or the inside to affect the mouthpiece's
acoustics. Even buffing (which was suggested earlier) can result in
accidental removal of material from the rails. It doesn't take much to
change the facing curve enough to be noticeable, and my impression is that
the dimensions of the upper baffle in particular could be critical. So many
players on the list seem concerned about material they feel is worn off
simply by swabbing (however carefully).

For what it's worth, I've had mouthpieces that had turned greenish simply
from age. I've always felt better just leaving them alone. The color isn't
visually noticeable from any distance (i.e. to people sitting in the
audience) and it certainly isn't aurally noticeable to anyone.
