Subj: [kl] Dorm deadline at ClarinetFest
Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 15:43:26 -0400

Numbskull that I am, I assumed, wrongly, that ClarinetFest would do things
on about the same timetable as a science fiction convention, where entropy
isn't just a hobby; it's a way of life. Went to the ClarinetFest web site
today, and discovered that May 24 was the deadline to reserve a room in the
dormitory and that there's no guarantee of a room after today. Urgh...I'm
still deciding whether or not I can go at all. Does anyone know if the
dorm rooms are filled?

(No, I wasn't going to put down Dick Vigorous as a roommate. I'm not
inviting the raccoons in the chimney, either; and Shadow Cat wouldn't come
if I did invite her. In fact, she may never speak to me again after what
happened yesterday. I had hoped that her fondness for bass saxophone might
mean she'd feel differently about a contra-alto clarinet than she does
about little screech-sticks. Nope. Evidently it's something about the
tone quality, even more than the pitch, because she says contra-altos just
prove that clarinets are vacuum cleaner larvae--and when they grow as big
as contra-altos, they're nearly mature, too.)
