I did a Google search and received 239 hits for "Contemporary Record
Society". I didn't read all 239 hits from beginning to end, but I
didn't notice any mention of how large the awards are. One of the
hits
gave a hint however:

As you can see, another organization donated money towards the cost of
the artist's making of a "Contemporary Recording Society" recording.
Although this doesn't prove anything, the implication, it seems to me,
is that this particular artist had to come up with cash in order to
get
his (or her?) work recorded. The unanswered questions are "How much
money?" and "Does every winner need to come up with cash?"

I'm going back about 15 years but I do remember checking with it and
around $2500 was the cost that the artist had to pay and that was
again back in 1989 (if I recall). I thought "What the Hell?? PAY TO
RECORD AFTER WINNING THIS "COMPETITION"???? "

That was what I was referring to. As far as I'm concerned, if you win
a competition for a recording company, THEY SHOULD PAY THE FULL RIDE.

As far as owning all of the right like Ormondtoby mentioned, I'm not
sure if even that is the case (I highly doubt that you walk away
owning all of the rights)
