Vinegar does not damage or discolor hard rubber. *Heat* does.

Perhaps you have washed the mouthpiece in hot water? If so, the
discoloration may disappear over time.

Soap and cold water (not icy cold, just not warm) or *white* vinegar
(flavored vinegar may leave a residue) are the usual methods of cleaning
a mouthpiece. Vinegar dissolves the mineral deposits left by calcium
in saliva --- everybody's saliva contains calcium. Some people dilute
the vinegar wth cold water, others use vinegar straight from the bottle.
Vinegar is already 95% water.
