I wonder if anyone out there with medical insight can shed light on the
question of "Open/ or closed throat". One often comes across the expression
in tutorials on woodwind tone production etc.
I am under the impression that there are no direct control muscles allowing
throat openin-closure.

I know one has the sensation of opening/ closure, but is this "All in the
mind" so to speak.?
Artie Shaw, on being asked why he quit playing, refered to " Things you have
to do with you'r throat".
I am currently being plagued by a lump stuck in the throat feeling and
wonder if there can be some clarinettist's secret occupational desease
lurking ??
Best Wishes.... Harold Troughton. Blue Magnolia jazz Orch. Liverpool.
