It's funny you should say something about this sonata, at my school, William Paterson University, we just finished up an annual Hindemithon, a 2 day festival celebrating the music and life of Hindemith. We as clarinetists are lucky to have one of the more beautiful of the sonatas (Hindemith wrote the sonatas to his ability level. Being a violist, he also must of had decent clarinet chops as well!). I would recommend checking out his Oboe sonata and his Viola sonatas, giving you a great feel for his style as well as pieces that were all written in about a 2 to 3 year span.
