Oh Andy, you are about 5 years out of synch. Take a look in the
klarinet archives that deal with the discussion of dark and
bright sounds. I couldn't possibly go through this again.
Alternatively, I have a piece called "That Nice Dark Sound"
somewhere in the archives. Work hard. Look it up. Read it.

I hear the word "color" ("colour" for our friends across the
Atlantic :-) used
to describe different ways of sounding/voicing/playing the same
note. "Dark"
and "bright" are certainly qualifiers used to describe color.
So... why frown
on the use of "dark" or "bright" in describing tone?
