Subj: [kl] Questions on Bartok Concerto for Orchestra
Date: Wed, 5 May 2004 23:09:03 -0400

First question:

In the beginning of the Third Movement, the Elegia, Bartok has the clarinet
alternate with the flute in wispy little 11 note figures. The part calls for Bb
clarinet.

The figures lie much better up a half step on the A clarinet. Previous
clarinetists who have played this piece have even supplied a transposed part,
written in Finale or some other notation program.

Those of you who have been fortunate enough to play this piece, did you
consider playing these measures on the A?

Second Question:

In the Giuoco Delle Coppie, in the clarinet duet solo, measures 48 and 49,
the part indicates a slur into the eighth note after the sixteenths. Later, in
the recurrence of the theme, in 201 and 202, the part indicates the eighth note
should be tongued.

Anyone know which one is correct?
