It's a running gag, of sorts. Lelia Loban does some writing (as in
fiction and film reviews and commentary on Wiccan matters). Over the
years, she has invented two animal characters --- Shadow Cat and Dick
Vigorous. Shadow Cat has mental powers which allow her to take over
the mind of 'her human' and thereby to post her own feline thoughts.
Dick Vigorous is a rat who is basically mean-spirited and chews
clarinets for breakfast. Both of them are contemptuous of humans.
"V*c**m cl**n*r" is "vacuum cleaner", an infernal device that many
household animals view as an evil threat.

Lelia's occasional 'animal posts' are 90% humor and 10% commentary on
some topic. But above all else, they are "time out" when people want a
brief interlude from serious clarinet discussion.

From time to time, other Klarinet subscribers have tried their hand at
creating characters. 'Sadie' is a new one. There was "Manny the
Major Mynah". But none of them have had the staying power of Lelia's
two characters.

weird.... because if you're normal, that's just plain weird."
