Dr. Newlin has been teaching music theory and history at Virginia
Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia since, I believe, 1979 or
thereabouts. I took her either third year or fourth year class (can't
remember which) in what was then known as Basic Musicianship, a six
semester hour course, that entailed both music history, theory and ear
training. (It was the late seventies, early eighties, so things were,
well, the way they were then.) Anyhow, I really liked how she
approached the units she taught, and I found that I retained a great
deal from my studies at that time.
