Amen, Walter. When I started teaching privately I decided to make sure my
students get a well-rounded dose of theory mixed with everything we study,
because my clarinet teacher from middle and high school did for me, and my
high school BD as well. Actually after we started this line of thought, I
remembered that my HS director actually fought and got a music theory class
started in our school's schedule my junior year because - 1. He cared about
those of us who were serious about music.; and 2. He knew it would only
improve our practice and performance.
