John -

As you may know, any "mildness" in your weather is attributable to the
warmth of the Gulf Stream that originates down here in the Florida area and
south.

Why not consider the west coast - Cape Coral, Ft. Myers, Naples. We have a
lot of permanent English residents plus a large number of part time and
tourist residents. The fact that we are not much like the English rural
countryside, this does not seem to bother these residents.

And the weather is somewhat better than the British Isles.

End of commercial.

Regards.

I've visited several parts of the USA with my job over the years, and I
particularly remember Massachusetts. I remember being taken out on a warm
summer's evening, and sitting in a country "pub", drinking Sam Adam's real
ale. We were sat by a window looking out on a country lane with hedgerows,
and for all the world I could have been in the middle of Herefordshire. I
thought at the time that if I had to live in the US, I could do a lot worse.

Also, Boston seemed a very civilised city. I was told that it had a lot to
do with the large student population, it certainly had a much more
cosmopolitan atmosphere than I expected.

Of course, I haven't been there in the middle of winter. On the other hand
they don't get the "wrong sort of snow", so maybe it's not too bad.

That was 10 years ago, I don't know how much it's changed since then.
