Subj: [kl] unknown composers published by Stubbins

For a current project, I am interested in composers of the first half of the 19th century. In my search, I dug out a book with a lovely collection of clarinet solos (with piano accomp.) called Recital Literature for the Clarinet Vol. II publ. by William H. Stubbins at George Wahr Publ. Co. Ann Arbor Copyright 1949. Why do so many (especially American) publishers offer composers with no first names?? I've tried to find out who these composers are and have had very little success! I checked the big German language encyclopedia (MGG) and P. Weston's Books and, of course a search on Google and on Klarinet.

Here are the composers, pieces - and what I found out.
Can anybody supply any more info?
Thanks in advance,
David

E. Avon, Prelude and Rigaudon - found absolutely nothing!

J. Ed. Barat, Chant Slave - found that this is also published by Leduc, that his full name may have been Joseph Eduorad. Possible birth date: 1882. Possible death date: 6 May 1998 (doesn't fit too well, does it?)

Robert Clérisse, Promenade - his dates may be 1899-1973. That's all I found.

V. Dyck, Invocation to Euterpe - lovely piece but as far as looking for a person, that's about as much help as J. Smith.

J. Déré, Andante et Scherzo - also publ. by southern. A certain Jean Dère taught in Paris in 1923 (MGG).

P. Genin, Cantilène op.64 and Melodie with Variation op. 63 - found nothing

Marcel Gennaro, Andante et Scherzo - also publ. by Billaudot, was Solo de Concours at Paris Cons. 1932. Birth date may be 1888.

Max Laurischkus, Three Pieces op. 30 - also wrote "Aus Litauen" op. 23 for ww5tet. Dates: Insterburg 1876 - 1929 Berlin.

A. Longo, Suite op. 62 - seems to be Achille Longo 28.3.1900-28.5.1954 Naples. The pieces in the book are supposedly all original for clarinet but my MGG says this was a piece for "a woodwind instrument" and piano written in 1924.

A. Magnani, solo de concert - must be Aurelio M. 26 Feb. 1856 - 25 Jan 1921, Italian, dedicated to Turban, publ. by Evette & Schaeffer 1902.
