the other clarinet chamber piece that won a Pulitzer was perle's quintet no.

I find it interesting looking through the list of winners how many
composer's pieces that won the award never became popular... However, other
works by those composers have become standards of the repertoire.

that was part of my thought process. if these composers and these
compositions were at one time at the top of american music scene, then quite
possibly the clarinet music of these composers can't be all that bad!
it is interesting how many of the composers and their compositions have
fallen into obscurity.
