Actually, if YOU read the thread, Linda Brannen REFUSED to take
a clarinet shipped to her from NYC area (including NJ) and would
not ship it back either. I asked people on the list whether it
was worth the trip, and they said yes, they are the best. I
decided that my wonderful Prestige should not be in an unknown
hack's hands in some uncharted shop, and I willingly paid the
money to go to Chicago. I did not throw this in their face, nor
did I throw it in yours. My points were:

1. I wouldn't have gone to Chicago, and would have shipped the
instrument if they had been reasonable about the shipping
option. I had assumed I would be shipping the instrument when I
first called to get the date for the repair. What alternate
address would you suggest I have the clarinet sent to...Iowa?
How about Paris? They were specific that they WOULD NOT ship to
ANY address in the NYC area, including ALL of NJ, so I had no
addresses within a 75 mile radius of me to send the clarinet to.
I was also instructed that if I sent it from a NYC address, it
would not be accepted at the shop, since it couldn't be shipped
back.

Would I go to Chicago now, even if I hadn't had that particular
experience with the Brannens? No, because I am older and know
better than to accept stupid logistical parameters for the
repair of an instrument. I also would have a lot more references
about different repair people in the Klarinet Archives that I
could call on and ship an instrument to. At the time, I didn't
know of a better option to make sure that my clarinet was in top
shape as I embarked on my professional career here in NYC. My
clarinet was my meal ticket, and I was insuring it was safe and
in good order with the only parameters I had at the time.

2. I found it to be a slap in the face, with the Brannens
knowing I had to fly there just for the overhaul, and knowing
that I was only there one day, for them to suggest I *come back
next week* when the replacement register tube I asked for a
month prior wasn't in. It wasn't like I could have shipped it
next week either with their shipping parameters. Should I have
flown back the next week so they could complete their work?

As far as "hard-on" being used in an asexual manner, which I
have *never* heard in conversational or written conversation, I
think you are very strange to think that we should pick up on
your self-derived, non-sexual interpretations of this sexual
slang term. If you have to explain the connotations, you are
using it incorrectly, because this is a well versed bunch of
people here who don't need to be catered to. You did also
clarify that <<"Hard-on" was asexual in connection with my
use.>> which tells me that even *you* know that it isn't
colloquial language, it is *your* slang. Thanks for clarifying
that fact.

I'm *sure* we will all begin using this term "hard-on" in our
conversations with friends, family, and colleagues right away,
now that we know that you have coined a new meaning for the
slang of an erect penis to mean something else. I think I'll try
it out with my Mom today. I know she appreciates new words and
their usage for her vocabulary enrichment. I'll contact Webster
to let them know they have a new entry, and maybe give them your
e-mail address to watch out for in case you need to clarify for
them the way *you* speak, so they can alter their dictionary to
include alternate ways of using slang previously thought of as
purely misuse by someone without a good grasp of the English
language.

By the way, you have managed to be argumentative and crass in so
many of your rebuttals for peoples' comments, I feel the need to
remind you of something. ALL of your posts are recorded and
accessible for public reference in the Klarinet archives and for
future searches on any search engine on the web.

Look up cpaok in the "Look for" field. You will be amazed at the
prolific flames and personal attacks recorded permanently for
anyone who wants to see them. I found 438 hits from this
address, with MANY on the first page alone being rather abusive
to an array of people including Walter Grabner, Patricia Smith,
Bill Hausmann, and Dan Leeson. For someone who refers to
yourself as an "amateur" (Klarinet Archive - Posting 000950.txt
from 1999/09 on Mon, 27 Sep 1999,) you sure seem to find fault
with a lot of people who are quite knowledgeable on this list,
even when they try to appease you when you fly off the handle.
Ever try typing an e-mail and saving it as a draft for an hour
before hitting *send*?

I do.
