In the mid-1980's I purchased a Buffet straight from the Brannen's, with
all their custom work done. This February I sent it to them for its
FIRST minor repairs. They replaced five pads, oiled and adjusted a few
springs for me. That was the only repairs needed in about 18 years of
playing it! They worked by appointment which was great for me,
finishing the job in one day and it was back on a UPS truck!

At least the Klarinet group is talking about clarinet issues again!

I have had both my 4 year old R-13 Greenline Bb and my 1969 R-13 A
overhauled by Bill and Linda Brannen and must say that the work was
terrific. I had only minor problems with their custom pads.
Apparently,
the tone hole seats on my Greenline were very sharp - so sharp that they
cut
the skin of the pads. Linda was quick to respond to my email and
scheduled
a prompt appointment to fix the problem. They took care of all the
shipping
charges as well.
As for when they retire, there are many great repair technicians to
choose
from. In addition to the Brannens, I also go to Miles Davis (yes,
that's
his name, and his shop is called Miles Ahead) in Louisville, KY. His
work
is outstanding plus he is a terrific person to work with. His prices
are
comparable to the Brannens but he uses Straubinger pads on the lower
joint
as opposed to custom-made pads.
