Actually, re: Conn/UMI, weren't they selling some bad Czech stencil
clarinets too? I seem to recall having an old beater of a horn circa
1995/6 labelled "Musica", that had UMI paperwork inside it. I used it
for a little outdoor playing because it was cheap, but very bad. I
used it as the guinea pig for learning to do disassemblies and
reassemblies on my own, and it was pretty funny, because I, a rank, bad
amateur, who doesn't trust himself to do major work on his own
clarinets, actually found that the key action was much improved once I
put it all back together and swedged and reseated everything.
Were those horns Amati stencils, or some other maker? I'm curious if
anyone knows.
