Back around March 20, I was searching for a title to the Clarinet and
Bassoon Duet and I thank you all for the help, as a person from overseas
gave me a great CD to get for it on the Deutshe Grammophon label.

However, I got this last night, as I must of email everyone I could find on
google from the Strauss Insitute, as these must be run by a relative, who
pass it to a Dr. May.

I don't know who Dr. May is, but I thank them both for sending more
information on the piece.

Dear Mr. Marmer,

Mrs. Rohla-Strauss passed your e-mail to us, and you can be helped easily.
The piece you heard was The Duett-Concertino in F major for Clarinet and
bassoon with accompaniment of string orchestra and harp. Richard Strauss
composed it in December 1947, the last piece of a series of instrumental
concerts.
It can be seen from Strauss's early sketches that he was obviously inspired
by the literature topos of a pretty young girl and a more or less ugly,
disgusting lover, which you find for example in Andersen's "Die Prinzessin
und der Schweinehirt" or in the famous French fairy tale "La belle et la
bête". While composing Strauss more and more left the literary background
behind, and in the autograph score no hint to it is left.

With kind regards
Dr. Jürgen May

Betreff: Clarinet Bassoon Title

Hello,

I am hoping that someone can help me with the title of something that I
think was written by Richard Strauss.

It was a piece of music, that I think was written in the 1940's about a girl
(clarinet) and a Bear (bassoon) as the girl gets lost in the woods. I don't
remember the outcome of the story, but the music was great, as it was
accompany by a Orchestra.

I did hear this piece perform in 2002 at a concert that Loren Kitt,
clarinet, of the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, DC played, as the
concert also feature the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A. I know that title
very well, since I play clarinet too, not professionally however.

Any help you can give me for this title, if it was written by Richard
Strauss would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Mike Marmer
