Subject: [kl] Play testing mouthpieces

Tom,

OF COURSE I play test all of my mouthpieces. How can you possibly make a
mouthpiece without trying it? Making the professional mouthpiece is not just
putting a facing on a blank. It requires a good model and then careful
adjustment to make the mouthpiece play similar to the model.

BTW, I play only my own mouthpieces and have done so since about 1989. On
clarinet I am going back and forth between a CF on my custom Babbitt blank
and a CF+ on my custom Zinner blank.

As to the student mouthpieces, I give everyone a quick toot.

I have three of Clark's mouthpieces for my basset horn. The first two were
the high priced model and, though nice, they left me unsatisfied. Then he
gave me (really GAVE IT!!) one of the student mouthpieces and that is the
only one I now use on my basset horn. Don't knock the mouthpiece because it
is less expensive and for students. It works like a charm for me.

Dan
