I notice that the Verdi photograph shows a bulge where the one-piece
barrel is located. This implies that Orsi feels that exterior shape
makes a difference. I don't believe (?) that the bulge is required in
order to avoid cutting into the barrel's bore.
This is opposed to the "air column shape is everything" concept, of
course.
I happen to agree that material and exterior shape affect tone to a
small extent, and craftsmen like Morrie Backun argue in favor of a
bulge's effect on tone ("woody" is the adjective that Mr. Backun uses).
Thus I'm not objecting to the bulge, just noticing its implication.
