To my inexperienced ear, the organ was well-suited for its building (a
2000 seat theater with good acoustics and enough stage for a 100+
instrument orchestra). Two things that enhanced the experience were
(A) the pipes run down either side of the theater, they are not
clustered together behind the stage, and there's no dependence on
additional amplification; and (B) the main console rises up out of the
stage and drops back down at the organist's command, and the console is
beautifully painted in art deco colors. These features allow the
organist and the light crew to 'surprise' the audience with grand
entrances and exits.
