Heh! I'll beat Dan to the punch by observing that I called S2 "dark"
and Gillian called it "bright". Well, we agree on "less centered", at
least.

I suppose the real point is that Howarth's instruments are well built
and don't have any striking intonation issues. But in order to judge
the sound, you simply have to play the instruments yourself.
