What, then, is the logic of the big bore basses? What are the pros and cons?
Are the small bore instruments harder to play? In this thread a number of
you have said you like the smaller bore german basses. In other previous
threads, people have said they like the smaller bore basset horns despite the fact
that makers have been increasing the size of the bore in recent years. And I,
a brand new (boehm) bass player, feel as if the bass has never been designed;
the clarion seems to be an afterthought, being so different in response from
the chalameau.
