Hi Nick,
I agree that the narrow bore instruments tend to carry well. I enjoy the sound more too. As Alan once put it, it sounds more like a clarinet. That much more of a pity that more and more German orchestra players are starting to use Boehm bass clarinets (mainly Selmer). Another strange thing is the so called bel canto bass clarinet which has a "Boehm bore" and German system fingering. That seems to me to be the worst of both worlds.
