This is not an April Fool's day spoof posting.
This morning , from my double clt case I accidentally assembled the top half
of my big-bore Conn clarinet to the bottom portion of my Romeo Orsi made
(Howarth) ebony horn. (normal french bore).. The right hand keys felt
unfamiliar and I realised my mistake. I was surprised that that the hybrid
woud still play. I was in for a shock when I realised i was playing the
finest clarinet had ever played in over 40 years !!... the composite set up
is... Vandoren5JB m-piece, Howarth barrel, Big bore Conn top half, French
bore Howarth /Orsi bottom joint , & finally Con bell.
The "mixture" has the sweet tone of the Howarth with the "presence&
projection of the Conn. and as a bonus, spot-on intonation !
The accidental configuration breaks every rule in the book. I wonder if any
fellow posters have had such a lucky misshap. ? Harold Troughton. Blue
Magnolia Jass Orchestra , Liverpool UK.
