I will concede that there may be SOME benefits for the lower-IQ
student. However, the brighter student WILL NOT learn at the same
pace,
since the material will be presented at a slower rate to accommodate
the
slower child. Why do we continually trying to cram all students into
the
same classroom, expecting the teacher to cope with the clearly
impossible
situation? It is a misguided idea of "democracy" that everyone should
receive exactly the SAME education, even if it is a completely
miserable
one. Grouping students of similar abilities and/or disabilities would
greatly improve the efficiency of the educational process, and better
help
EACH child to achieve his or her MAXIMUM potential. Unfortunately,
that is
not "politically correct," so in the meantime the children will have
to
suffer from inadequate education.

My personal goal is to scrap political correctness and just "be
correct". I love riding folks who are trying to be politically
correct while also being full of crap. The smartest kids are the ones
who will contribute the most to society - they deserve the best
education and not to be slowed down while a student with learning
issues is constantly taking class time getting help. As put in a film
"the needs of many outweigh the needs of a few" (ok, it was a crappy
film, but you get the point).

That being said, the special attention that some kids need should by
all means be given to them, but not at the expense of slowing down the
higher learners. If a disabled student is a savant in math then put
him in the higher math class. If he has trouble in Language, English,
etc than put him in the class with the other students who are having
similar issues so that the teacher can have a prayer of teaching them
all at the same speed. All kids deserve a good education but some
will learn more than others and at different speeds. Give them all a
chance to do well.
