Although I didn't bother to read much of his lengthy diatribe, I believe
that I was criticized for my unfavorable comments on teachers
(and probably their red-tape loving school administrators).

It is so good that she is
now able to provide the support and education of her students that she was
denied by her incompetent teachers and school administrators.

Gene,

I think that you have a very limited view on which to speak about teachers
(especially as abusive as you are with this topic). Thank goodness teachers
have unions to protect them from people like you. As a matter of fact, I
think you are a party line Republican. You seem to be a guy that would like
to see the public schools fail. (*your banter about home schooling) It's too
bad really. I bet you love the idea of vouchers??? Not a single referendum
for school vouchers in this country has stood the test of a public vote. Get
over it and get into one of your local public schools as a volunteer. See
what really goes on in your local schools. You're retired aren't you? Go
help on a daily basis for a while. You might be surprised. You might find
out just how good we have it with the existing public school teachers. We
would have even better qualified people in these positions if the
politicians coughed up a reasonable and at least a livable salary.

My daughters have had a top rate public school experience. My oldest is a
junior at Boston College. She entered BC as one of 2000 freshmen selected
out of 22,000 applicants. She is currently 38th in her class placement and
has been on the top Dean's list since her first semester. The public school
she attended is very diverse culturally. Many "at risk" kids attend the
schools in the ISD in which she attended school. The very fine teachers and
administrators have managed to produce a quality education for the vast
majority of kids in the system. Not everyone prevails...but not because
"all" teachers and administrators are "incompetent".

Leave no child behind is a nightmare for educators. I do not know of a
single school board, administration or teacher (and yes, that includes
teachers unions Gene) that supports this program. It's becoming a political
hot potato. Bush unleashed this program for "good looks" and it appears that
it's going to become a political and practical bomb. I wouldn't look to Bush
for any insight when it comes to education. He was a poor student. He
mismanaged the public school system in Texas.

P.S. Gene...my daughter is going to soon join the ranks of the incompetent.
Incompetent if people listen to your complaints and views about teachers.
She will complete two degrees in four years and is in a fifth year masters
program. Her degrees? Education and psychology Gene....
Best leave education to real professionals.
