Nancy, it is wonderful to hear about your daughter. I need to hear more
success stories. And if you can email me the name of that college, I'd
love to have it on hand. ;)

My son is borderline. We don't know if he will be able to live on his own.
It's one of those things that could go either way, if he receives the right
services, then yes, he will be able to. But he is somewhat unaware of
reality, it's like he lives in a fog. Whether he will grow out of it or not
we have yet to see. But people are still pissed off here about the Money.
And about what people who can utilize their gifts don't get because money
needs to be spent elsewhere first.

People think that we parents are just asking for goodies when we ask the
school for services for our kids. I think they think it's like having a big
wedding, because you want to get the presents. But hey, I will certainly
forego all the services, if they want to put forth money to keep him in his
house, well fed, with someone there to take care of him after we go.
Because that's what the tax dollars do. Support people who can't take care
of themselves.

Now, my opinion is, if you Invest the money now, you Reap the rewards later.
If the school will spend less money now, give the kids the damn services
they need, and then the taxes won't go up quite so much. Taxpayers won't
have to pay to support my kid until he's 95, not if he can go out and work.
Or they can go cheap (like our district) and try and get out of it, and try
and snow the parents into believing the kids are getting what they need.
When 90% of the time they aren't, because money is the bottom line for every
district.

Oh, what? He should go get a job? We live in Amish Country. No public
transportation out here. Tell ya what, he CAN get a driver's license. No
law that says he can't, if he passes the tests. He's going to need an
income, and he's going to need health insurance (the MA issue is a whole
other animal in PA). So for anyone who doesn't want to pay their taxes no
w for services, give me your address. And when he gets his license, son
with all his attention issues (and lack thereof) can drive down your street.
I hope your car isn't parked on it. And I hope your family is inside your
house.

Does that drive the point home any further?

Lynn
