Hi Mr. Galper:

I have your "Tone, Technique and Staccato" book and I saw on the back if you
might of known a Alan Dolid, who played Oboe in the Isreal Philharmonic? I
am not sure when you or he were in that organization, but Alan is no longer
playing Oboe professionally anymore due to burn out.

My wife is the one who told me about Allan, as she is a dietitician for a
company called Sodexho that runs foodservice management for schools,
hospitals, healthcare, business, etc. She was at a menu meeting a couple of
years ago and she told him that I just started to take up the clarinet again
at age 47. This was in 2001. Allan said good for me, as he told her the
above. Allan, a very nice person, got burned out and became a Executive
Chef! How is that for a career change! He is the food service director for
Western Maryland College in Westminister, MD, now known as McDaniel College,
as McDaniel is someone who gave money to te school, enough so, for the
school to change it's name! And you all thought naming rights was just for
Sports!

Anyway, Allan is very happy in his new career and still teaches the Oboe.
He is also an avid bike rider, pedal type, which we are and that is probably
how my wife and Allan started to talk about at the meeting.

So I just wanted to see if you knew of Allan, if not that is fine, as I
wanted to share this story with others, incase those who play
professionally, you know you can have a new career anytime, in the fun world
of foodservicef. Actually it is awful, as I am in food service sales to
restuarants and you don't want to hear some horror stories that will make
you want to think twice before entering a restaurant! Stick with the
clarinet playing! O:)!
