You know, gang, there are people who have faced the problem of conversing
by electronic means with total strangers, and have survived for 3/4 of a
century. Ham radio operators have these same problems, and have evolved
informal rules which have generally protected them. It is understood that
there are three subjects which are not discussed - religion, politics and
sex. Generally this works. As with any other group, there are and will be
some who chose to ignore these rules. They can be dealt with by "sending
them to Coventry" as the Brits might say - just refusing to acknowledge
their existence or communicate with them, at least on these subjects.

I think this could work here as well.
