Please cite your source for the etymology. The last time I saw anything on
this the scholars still were not certain of its origin. All that they were
able to say was that it goes well back in the history of the English
language as monks refer to it in code in some of there documents very early
in their writings. It was considered vulgar as far back as it can be
traced.
