Just because a quote comes from a religious source does not make it any less
true. In ancient times, people needed rules for getting along together just
as we need laws today. To get people to obey reasonable and necessary
rules, they put them into the religious context hoping that "the fear of
God" would keep them on the straight and narrow since ordinary social
pressure might be inadequate and they did not have law enforcement as we
know it today.

For example, "The Golden Rule" as it is called shows up in a variety of
wordings in religions and philosophies around the world. Why? Because it
lays down a guideline that if followed makes for a very workable society.

Have we become so paranoid about religion that we must ignore any quote or
philosophy coming from such a source? Why must we "throw out the baby with
the bathwater" because we object to the water?
