FedEx shipped my baritone Sax from Minneapolis to Southern California. When
it got here it needed $180.00 worth or repair to re-align the bell. Some of
this was likely caused by the case being a bit worn, but I think they just
bounced it around too much. It was insured for $2000. I have had decent
enough luck with UPS with smaller instruments as long as they are insured.
(UPS stores items insured for more than $1000 in a separate place and
generally take better care) I won't recommend either vendor even with that
said. The only one I have never had an issue with is Airborne Express. But
that was more than 10 years ago - much may have changed in that time.

Subject: [kl] Advice needed on shipping of large expensive instrument

I need to ship a large, heavy, expensive instrument cross country. If anyone
has had experience with this, I could use advice on what shippers to use,
and
which
to avoid.

Thanks in advance,
Walter
