I'm not sure that the audience always matters. Look at the Beatles for an
example. They really got their act together playing in dirty, nasty, abusive
night clubs (sex clubs) in Germany. It was a very rough audience they played
for (according to band members)....and for many long hours each day. Not
your typical "sit down" gig. They did several longs stints in these clubs.
Band members have said that the work during this period is what took the
band to the next level. The members of the band believe that the work done
in that not so great environment....brought us all the Beatles we all (well
most) know.
