As a data point, I just called a small private school (grades 1-12, I'm
guessing 200 students in all the grades combined, 300 at the outside).
Being small and oriented toward college prep, I doubted that this school
would have a band class. Perhaps a small band as an extra-cirricular
project, or perhaps a music appreciation class, but not a performance
class with a music teacher.

Wrong. They do have one, and it's a full-year class with grades.
They also have a full-year choral class with grades.

Just a data point..... but it says something.
