Unfortunately, this is true in WAY too many places.

At one high school I visited, which shall remain nameless, I had one of
these former jock assistant principals say to me, when I asked about
programs for children gifted in the arts, that he didn't think that the
"artsy types" should be allowed to segregate themselves away from the
rest of society in special schools for the performing arts, etc. They
need to fit in with the rest of society - at least this was the gist of
what I understood him to say.

All of my three younger children are showing signs of being gifted in
the arts. One of my sons is already in private art lessons. I will
more than likely teach them music myself. And I am already looking for
a high school for the performing arts for this one son, because I know
for a fact that it just is NOT worth it for him to have to waste through
regular high school. Why should four years of our lives be about
"fitting into" a dysfunctional society that gives us the likes of Janet
Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Brittney Spears and Madonna and calls THAT
art, music and dance?
