I want to add another thought to this whole thing. As someone who sells
occasionally on eBay, I try very hard to be as accurately descriptive as
possible with items, but so many people scanning eBay either don't read
carefully enough, or just don't read everything, period. I can't count the
number of times I receive emails from someone asking me a question that's
already answered in my description, and then no matter how carefully you
reply so you don't make them sound clueless, many of them are still offended
when you point out their answer on the auction page. As are the ones who
send you a personal check when you tell them you don't accept them, and it
is clearly stated on the auction page, then get upset wjen you make them
wait ten days for the check to clear.

So, it boils down to sellers being honest and thorough. As for the identity
theft question, I have had several buyers or potential buyers request my
name and number so we can talk by phone about an item, and I think like
Walter...your info is available to any registered eBay user upon request. I
did have someone in the early days of eBay figure out my password and take
my seller ID, and caused all kinds of trouble before I convinced eBay what
was up was not ME...and they actually refunded a big chunk of money
wrongfully charged against my account, so I've seen the best and worst of
their system.
