Mark says:

<<Walter, the solution to your discomfort in fact may be totally inadvisable
for someone else. Ever heard of identity theft, ever heard of misuse of
information?>>

Of course I have.

<<Many credit card & banks offer this SAME advice. Don't provide any
information in advance of another person or entity needing it. names,
telephone numbers, addresses should be given out in auction environment when
the EXCHANGE commences.>>

I view the internet just like a telephone book. It takes two seconds to look
up my name address and telephone number, and another 10 seconds to ask
MapQuest for a map to my house.

People have often said to me "Oh, don't give out your personal information on
the internet." Well, I think that advice is out-of-date.

I have nothing to hide. I have no fear of irate customers, either. If someone
doesn't like what I did, or what I sold them, I cheerfully refund their money
of give them credit on another purchase.

I DO NOT give out credit card numbers, drivers license number, Mother's
maiden name, etc. That's where you get in trouble.

By the way, every time you rent a car, you are giving away every piece of
information that an unscrupulous person needs to buy $20,000 worth of PC's from
Dell and have them shipped to an unverified address anywhere in the US Now
that's identity theft.
