There are a series of books and CDs called Jump Right In for beginning
students that focuses mostly on ear training. I believe it has the
student
listen and then play along. It encourages audiation and singing. I
don't
know much about the series except that it is co-authored by Dr. Edwin
Gordon, an expert in the area of music-learning theory.

A local school district uses that Jump Right in Method and I hate it.
It's like a bargain basement Suzuki method.
Scale from 1 to 10 I rate it a 2. The method started out with
basically not introducing reading at all until the 2nd year.
5th grade is way too long a wait to start reading (assuming that the
student starts in 4th grade).
Maybe would be ok for a 5-7 yr old, but not much more......
btw - I have the books too. Ended up throwing them away.

There is a tuning CD which I'm guessing that the poster is referring
to - not related at all to this "method"...
