This particular incident in my town generated enough ire that it was a
full half-page story on the front page of our daily newspaper.
Something may come of it.

It happens that my daughter is in a musical theater production that was
written by the kids themselves for which the group will sing with CDs
because there's no school band available. The whole thing has gotten
me sufficiently uptight that I've offered to negotiate with the local
professional orchestra's outreach program to enlist some live musicians
as part of their outreach. Right now, the entire thing is in limbo
(and the theater is dark for lack of performances). The local
newspaper described the theater (I've never been inside it) as the
finest venue in this city, bar none. Perhaps my offer will be
accepted, or perhaps it won't work out. As someone pointed out, it's
mostly a case of several different government agencies each heading in
their own direction; and also the renovation was begun a couple of years
ago before the school payrolls were slashed.
