It is definitely good stuff to keep around for both uses Mark discussed
in his posts. I think a number of major Drug chains out west carry it
in the U.S. (Thrifty in CA?) I know it has been suggested to me in lieu
of cork grease, and to be honest, it isn't as gunky on the corks and
doesn't get into the tenon sockets as much. I've had to use a
semi-sharp object in the past to get old cork grease out of tenon
sockets before, and it's nasty stuff.
