I notice that you have mentioned national chain pharmacies. Smaller
pharmacies that offer 'personal' service usually have a jar of their own
that they use to compound medicines to specialized strengths that aren't
available from the mass-merchandising catalogs. I believe that any
pharmacy who cares to accept special orders can obtain it easily enough.

Like you, I was turned down by Costco and Rite Aid; but a smaller
pharmacy (admittedly, such pharmacies are disappearing) opened his own
jar and told me: "My jar is almost empty, and I need a new one anyway,
so I'll order two jars --- one for you and one for me."

If you can't find a jar this way, and if all you need is the size of
(say) a 35-mm film cannister, I'd be glad to mail you some. If you
need more than this, I'd be glad to buy a jar for you and ship it.
When I bought mine, it was $20. Unless you and your husband have a lot
of large drums, a 1-lb jar will last for the rest of your lives.

By the way, what you want is called "anhydrous USP lanolin", not "pure
lanolin."
